Captain's Keeper

This page is intended to help us provide you with quality support. We have designed and built Captain's Keeper so that it can be used in all facets of aviation. From Private flying to Commercial and Military. These different fields of aviation have different flight time recording requirements. In addition Terminology and Formats vary between regions.

So it is not surprising that some of you may have problems with the software.

Please use the Problem Report Form if you wish to report any problems that you may encounter with the software.

Prior to doing so check the Known Problems section below as we may be aware of the problem and fixing it already. In addition make sure that you have the current version installed.

If you have some suggestions on how we can enhance or improve Captain's Keeper please use the Enhancement Ideas Form.

Upgrade Files
A new version of CK4Conduit.dll is available to allow Captain's Keeper for Windows to function with Windows Vista provided that you have the Vista compatible Palm Desktop beta 6.2 software installed. This new conduit file is not currently in the release packages listed below. So if you are using Vista you will need to download it seperately and place it in your

C:\Program Files\CKW4\Conduit\

folder. Click here to download the new CK4Conduit.dll

Follow this guide to setup Captain's Keeper for Windows on a Vista PC:

REQUIRED ITEMS - You will need all three (3) of the following items for this process to work:
1 Palms Vista compatible desktop 6.2 beta from http://www.palm.com/us/support/downloads/windesk62.html
2 Our standard install package Ck4setup.exe. If you do not have a copy, fill the download request form below.
3 CK4Conduit.dll from the link above (Unzip CK4Conduit.zip to extract CK4Conduit.dll)

INSTRUCTIONS
1 Install Palm beta 6.2 desktop
2 Test that Palm device will hotsync with PC
3 Temporarily turn Vistas User Account Control (UAC) off. You do this in Control Panel > User Accounts. Reboot required.
4 Install Ck4setup.exe
- Do this over any existing install - should be no need to uninstall first.
- During this install, If you get the message "Could not find.....C:\PROGR~1\CKW4\Conduit\CONDUI~1.EXE" then you you have not disbled Vista UAC in step 3. UAC must be disabled for the CK4setup process to successfully install the conduit which allow Hotsyncing.

5 replace installed CK4Conduit.dll in C:\Program Files\CKW4\Conduit, with replacement Vista compatible CK4Conduit.dll from above link.
6 Check Captains Keeper conduit and Hotsync works
7 Turn UAC back on if desired.
Sorry for the longwinded instructions - Will soon place the vista fix into the regular install set so it will be much simnpler. In the mean time this will proved a workable solution.

Known Problems
Captain's Keeper v4.0 for Palm occasionally loses alphanumeric sorting in pull down lists. To fix this simply select Setup and open the effected list such as Airports. Tap on the column header by which you wish to sort and the list will get sorted again. Tapping again cycles between A-Z and Z-A. The sort order in this list is carried across to pull down lists on flight entry.
Captain's Keeper v4.0 for Windows does not Filter the logbook for Approaches even though there is a pulldown menu option for this on the Filter selection tool. (This will be fixed soon)
Captain's Keeper v4.0 for Windows does allow you to enter times in decimal format. The back end to accept this is all in place. We just have to add the capability to the input screens.. (this will be fixed soon too)
