Captain's Keeper
is an "Aviator's Logbook" application designed for PDAs running
the Palm OS. It includes applications for the Palm OS and Windows and
allows the user to easily tranfer information between the two. While
providing the capability to log basic flight activity, its design is
focused on allowing users to monitor FAA/JAA/CAA Flight Time Limitations
and Currency requiremants as applicable. Captain's Keeper is functional
enough to cater to the needs of professional airline pilots and yet
simple enough to be used by weekend fliers.
Captain's
Keeper is a fully featured Palm logbook application and is
not simply a data acquisition tool.
The three main screens are title Month, Day and Flight
Summary. They provide an instantaneous summary of hours and sectors
flown in any given Month or Day and provide the primary means of navigation
through out Captain's Keeper. To switch
between these screens press the M, D, F tabs at the top right of the screen. Once on
the Flight Summary screen pressing the New or Edit
buttons opens the Flight Detail screen.
As this screenshot demonstrates, pulldown menus speed entry of flight
information. Times automatically calculate and current times and dates
can be drawn from the PalmOS system clock. If required they can be
automatically adjusted to insert UTC while the device runs in local
time. Times can be entered in Decimal or Hours and Minutes format
and you can readily switch the logbook between the two. As soon as
a flight is entered it appears in the Month, Day and Flight
Summaries and relevant totals are updated.
Three Query tools can subsequently be used to extract information
from Captain's Keeper:
Flight Queries provides a means to filter and search for flight
records.
Limits Minder ensures that the user stays within maximum hours
during user specified periods.
Stay Recent ensures that the necessary number of take offs
and landing have been completed to satisfy state requirements. It
also ensures that recurring events such as medicals are completed
on time.
Numerous features make entry of flight information quick and simple
so that more time can be spent Aviating. Defaults can be set so that
a new flight always contains certain information. A LEG button
allows new flight sector details to be copied from a previous sector.
A Now button inserts current time (UTC or Local). New items
can be added to the pulldown lists rapidly from the Flight Detail
screen. These are just a few of the features you will find in Captain's
Keeper.
When coupled with it's desktop companion, you can synchronize your
logbook between the two platforms. This allows you to print and archive
your logbook. Captain's Keeper provides
a total solution for flight data logging, archival & reporting
needs of the aviation community. The desktop application provides
facilities for fast, bulk data entry, data archiving and a set of
standard reports.
Captain's Keeper provides a flexible
setup approach to all of the background data elements enabling users
of the system to fine tune it according to their individual needs.
